Jack and Jill
I began the project by creating 24 thumbnail sketches based on the limited wingdings provided. Next, I used a Sharpie to draw a rough draft on tracing paper, utilizing 5x5 inch squares as a guide.
For the final draft, I cut six 5x5 inch squares from Bristol paper. I taped my rough draft to a sunlit window and traced the designs onto the Bristol squares. After cutting out the two black panels according to the instructions, I measured and used spray adhesive to mount the squares on the panels. Finally, I cut tracing paper to create a protective cover for each design.
Icon Project
I designed a cohesive set of four icons for this project: a boat, a school, a fish, and a camera. I started with five thumbnails for each, using rounded edges and circles to create a unified style. After rough drafts, I finalized my selections and traced them onto the final drafts, ensuring balance.
The most challenging part was sketching the icons onto the phone layout, but the result was effective. I completed the project by mounting the final drafts on a matte board with spray adhesive, adding a name label, and creating a protective cover.
Line as Value
I had a lot of fun with this design. I began by lightly tracing a 1x1 grid onto the paper with a pencil, then sketching the octopus. I started with the darker areas and gradually connected lighter values to them. To mimic the original's dark background, I traced the grid behind the octopus, which added a nice textural element. Finally, I adhered the drawing to a blackboard and attached the tracing tape.
